Mertesacker and Rosicky sign new Arsenal contracts

Posted by TB  | No comments

Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky have signed new Arsenal contracts, the club has announced.

Mertesacker has been rewarded for forging a hugely successful partnership with Laurent Koscielny, while Rosicky's experience has made him useful to the Gunners in big matches.

"We are delighted that Mertesacker and Rosicky have committed their futures to the club," Arsene Wenger told the club's official website.

"They are players of exceptional quality and experience, and have consistently proven themselves at the highest level.

"There is a great feeling of togetherness and belief in the group and this news will only help to strengthen this further."

On the announcement of his new deal, Mertesacker said: "It was easy for me to commit myself to the club. I have been here for two and a half great years and feel I have great support from everyone at the club and the fans. I’m really looking forward to having more years coming up with this fantastic club.

"We have a great team here and we all want to do our best to win trophies."

Rosicky added: "Ever since I arrived at Arsenal, I have always felt that I'm at the right place where I want to be. I still feel this way now and I'm proud that after such a long time I'm still here and will continue.

"One big factor is that I want to win the league with Arsenal. It's my big goal and I will do everything that I can to achieve it.

"Arsenal is a great club, we have a great spirit here and we are all working together to do the best we can."

Wenger: Rosicky will extend Arsenal contract

Posted by TB  | No comments

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Tomas Rosicky will stay at Arsenal beyond this summer despite his contract having just six months remaining.

The Czech is free to discuss a move elsewhere in the current winter transfer window, but has previously stated his desire to extend his near eight-year stint at the Emirates Stadium.

And Wenger has confirmed he wants Rosicky to remain at the club, and praised the former Borussia Dortmund man's quality.

"Tomas will stay here at the end of the season," the French coach told reporters on Friday. "He is a marvellous player and contributes well to the team.

"He is certainly a typical Arsenal player in the way that he is mobile, technically sound and team orientated. He is a fantastic footballer."

Rosicky has made 20 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners so far this term, and will be in the squad for Monday night's game at Aston Villa.

Rosicky eager to extend Arsenal stay

Posted by TB  | No comments

Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky is hoping to resolve his future at the club, although he would also be open to a move to MLS.

The 33-year-old's contract at the Emirates Stadium expires at the end of this season, but the Czech Republic international is eyeing an extended deal.

The former Borussia Dortmund man has not ruled out ending his career at Arsenal, but expressed a desire to experience football on a different continent, earmarking the United States as his favoured destination.

"I would like to carry on but there are a few question marks," the 33-year-old told iSport.cz.

"If the day comes and I leave Arsenal, then I will be surely considering a move to play on a different continent.

"If it was possible, I would love to end my career at Arsenal, which is something I have said many times before.

"It's hard to leave a top club like Arsenal. It's a club where I have had everything I have ever been searching for in the football side of things.

"If I should leave, however, then I would be tempted to play in the USA. Football has been on the rise there and I'm interested in trying a different style of life.

"By that, I'm not ruling out a return to Sparta Prague, though."

Rosicky has made 94 appearances for Czech Republic and hopes to continue his international career in order to play at the 2016 European Championships.

"I have always liked to play for my country and if you have something to offer, it's not easy to give it up," he added.

"I wouldn't like to give up on either [Arsenal or the national team]. I would like to try for the Euro 2016."
