Man Utd set for €20m summer transfer battle for Roma star

Posted by TB  | No comments

Manchester United are said to be preparing for a summer transfer auction over Bosnian midfielder Miralem Pjanic, despite the player being set to sign a contract extension with Serie A side Roma.

Pjanic, 23, is said to be close to penning a new deal with the Giallorossi, but Italian newspaper ‘Il Tempo‘ still predicts a summer auction for the player.

PSG, Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid are all said to be gearing up for war over Pjanic, despite reports that the Roma man is close to extending his contract, in a deal worth €3.2m a year plus bonuses.

The player is reportedly in such high demand that an improved contract will not deter Europe’s biggest sides from continuing their pursuit.

With Manchester United boss David Moyes evidently on the lookout for midfield additions this month, there can be no real surprise that Pjanic found his way onto the United transfer agenda.

Versatile, a strong passer, and with a good footballing brain, the young midfielder could be an excellent addition to the United squad, if they can secure him ahead of the formidable competition.

What do you think? Should Manchester United continue to chase Pjanic? Let us know in the comments below…

Pjanic to extend at Roma

Posted by TB  | No comments

Roma are set to frustrate Manchester United by extending the contract of wanted midfielder Miralem Pjanic.

The Old Trafford outfit, as well as Tottenham, have been paired with the Bosnian ace whose present agreement is set to expire in 2015.

However, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the capital club are ready to renew his deal at the Olimpico.

The former Lyon player, netted in 2011, will apparently be handed fresh terms until June 2018. He will also see his wages rise to €2.8m a season after tax.

Pjanic, three goals in nine League games this term, is expected to put pen to paper at some stage in November.

Caceres ready to rebuff Roma and Napoli

Posted by TB  | No comments

Martin Caceres has no desire to leave Juventus despite interest from Roma and Napoli, the defender's agent has confirmed.

Caceres, 26, joined Juventus from Sevilla in July 2012 but has made just seven appearances in all competitions for Antonio Conte's men this season.

The Uruguay international is thought to be considering his future in Turin ahead of the 2014 World Cup, but representative Daniel Fonseca insisted Caceres is not interested in a move in January.

"Roma, Napoli and other big clubs asked about Caceres," Fonseca told Tuttosport.

"However, Martin is in love with Juventus and wants to remain in Turin.

"Of course I expected him to play more, because he is a very strong defender, but it’s only normal at a big club like Juve to have a large squad full of quality."

Pjanic : We are not afraid of Juventus

Posted by TB  | No comments

Miralem Pjanic has stated that Roma are not in the least bit afraid of Juventus ahead of Sunday's Serie A showdown in Turin.

The Bianconeri have won the Scudetto for the last two seasons and are currently five points clear of the Giallorossi at the top of the table.

However, Pjanic insists that unbeaten Roma will travel to Juventus Stadium in hope rather than fear.

"Juventus are a very strong team," the Bosnian is quoted as saying by Gazetta dello Sport. "But we are not afraid of them.

"We know we are on a par with any opponent in the league, but have to be on top of our game to beat Juve.

"It's going to be a great game for sure. But we're determined to bring home some valuable points."

Roma's crunch clash with Juventus is scheduled to kick off at 20:45CET.

Cagliari: No Nainggolan deal with Roma

Posted by TB  | No comments

Cagliari sporting director Nicola Salerno has rubbished rumours that the club have agreed to sell Radja Nainggolan to Roma.

The Belgium international is widely expected to leave the Sant'Elia during the January transfer window and has been reportedly attracting interest from traditional Serie A heavyweights Juventus, Inter and AC Milan.

It has been reported that Roma have also entered the race after a meeting between Cagliari president Massimo Cellino and Roma director of football Walter Sabatini but Salerno insists that it was nothing more than a chance encounter.

"There is no agreement," the Rossoblu official told ASRomaRadio.it. "Cellino and Sabatini have spoken with one another in general terms and I can tell you that they met at the airport by accident. This story was born of that.

"But there is nothing concrete in relation to Nainggolan. We have not started any negotiations with Rome. I do not know to what extent the Giallorossi are interested in the player.

"We are not in a position to give an answer [to that question]. We have started several negotiations and within 10-15 days we will be able to give you a definitive answer.

"It can't even been said that we will give him away. For the moment, there is nothing concrete; I can assure you of that 100 percent."

Mazzarri : Roma are the favourites to win the title

Posted by TB  | No comments

Inter boss Walter Mazzarri has played down the significance of his side's recent defeat to Roma and says the capital club can go all the way in their bid to take Juventus' league crown.

The Nerazzurri were humiliated 3-0 by Rudi Garcia's men on home soil two weeks ago, with the Giallorossi now five points clear at the top with eight wins out of eight.

"It's normal to suffer a little playing against a Roma of that quality," the 52-year-old told reporters ahead of Sunday's clash with Torino. "They look like a team with a top coach. They have every chance of going all the way."

"We lost the game but we didn't play all that badly. Torino have also picked up fewer points than they deserve so far this season. It's going to be another big test for us.

"I'm confident we can put on a good performance. I'd like us to be more clinical and make the most of situations in the final third."

Ricky Alvarez is unavailable for the trip to the Stadio Olimpico, but Mazzarri does not believe under-fire midfielder Fredy Guarin is a suitable replacement in a more advanced position.

"[Mateo] Kovacic is one possibility but I must say it's a shame Alvarez isn't fit," he continued. "In any case I'm confident about whoever comes in to replace Ricky.

"Guarin in the hole? I tried that out [on pre-season tour] in the States. With the attributes he has, he could find it hard receiving the ball in a certain way.

"I wouldn't rule anything out between now and May but it would be wrong to confuse him by giving him a different job to do right now."

New deal for Totti

Posted by TB  | No comments

Roma have confirmed that Francesco Totti has signed a two-year contract extension that will see him remain at Stadio Olimpico until 2016.

The 36-year-old's current deal had been due to expire at the end of the current season but after lengthy discussions with the capital club the Giallorossi legend revealed his delight at extending his stay with his hometown club on Friday.

"I have another two years of responsibilities and I'm sure we'll achieve some great things together," Totti told reporters at a press conference.

"I'd like to thank the president for this new contract. Everyone wanted it to happen, me and the club."

Totti made his Roma debut back in 1992 and has gone on to win Serie A, the Supercoppa Italiana twice and the Coppa Italia three times in his 21 years with the club.
