Robben: Wenger is a bad loser

Posted by TB  | No comments

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has accused Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger of being a bad loser.

The Dutch attacker remains upset that the French coach alleged that he had dived to win the penalty that resulted in Gunners goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny being dismissed in the first half of the Bavarians' Champions League victory at the Emirates last month.

Indeed, Robben has not only denied that he was guilty of playacting, he has also claimed that he was lucky to have avoided "serious injury".

"Shivers went down my spine when I saw footage of the foul again. Things could have gone horribly wrong. I have been quite lucky," the former Chelsea winger told De Telegraaf.

"Wenger's comments are typical for a losing coach. I don't care much about it, because it's not the first time he acts like this.

"It was a pretty scary moment for me. I picked up a serious injury in December after a similar foul from Augsburg's goalkeeper."

The second leg of the Champions League last-16 tie between Bayern and Arsenal is scheduled to take place at the Allianz Arena on March 12.

Robben eyes new Bayern deal

Posted by TB  | No comments

Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben has voiced his confidence that he will sign a new contract at the club in the near future.

The Dutchman has been at the Allianz Arena since 2009, but his current deal expires in just 18 months' time.

However, the former Real Madrid and Chelsea man says he is enjoying life in Bavaria and believes he still has something to offer the team.

"The club knows what they have in me and I know what I have at the club," the 29-year-old told SZ.

"I have a feeling that I have at least three years of top football before me - I love it here.

"[Club CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge] has said that we will soon talk concretely about the future."

Robben has been in excellent form for Bayern this season, scoring 13 goals in all competitions prior to a knee injury earlier this month.

Robben: Bayern do not fear anyone

Posted by TB  | No comments

Arjen Robben has insisted that Bayern Munich do not fear any opponent ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga clash against Borussia Dortmund.

The Bavarians were beaten 4-2 by BVB in the DFL-Supercup at the start of the season, but the Netherlands international says that Pep Guardiola's men have improved immeasurably since then.

"We are really looking forward to this game. I love games like these. We don't fear anyone, so we're not afraid of Dortmund either," Robben told reporters.

"We’ve come on very positively since the DFL-Supercup defeat. We respect them, but they don’t frighten us. We want to win the match.

"We are brimming with confidence at the moment and want to bag the full three points."

Bayern are still unbeaten in the Bundesliga and currently hold a four-point lead over second-placed Dortmund.

2 Bayern players to miss Hoffenheim clash

Posted by TB  | No comments

Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that he is unlikely to risk either Toni Kroos or Arjen Robben in Saturday's Bundesliga meeting with Hoffenheim.

Both players picked up minor hamstring injuries in last weekend's 3-2 win over Hertha Berlin but did return to full training on Thursday.

However, Guardiola does not want to rush either man back into action, given Bayern have a Champions League game against Viktoria Plzen to come on Tuesday.

"Toni is a bit further along than Arjen," the former Barcelona boss told reporters on Friday. "They both trained yesterday.

"Perhaps they are not fit tomorrow, but next Tuesday or next Saturday they will be fit."

Guardiola also admitted that the trip to Hoffenheim has also probably come a tad too soon for defender Dante, who has been struggling with an ankle problem.

"He has trained well, although there are still little problems," the Catalan coach explained.

Bayern's meeting with Hoffenheim at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena is scheduled to get under way at 15:30CET.
