Pardew : Wenger deserves to win Champions League

Posted by TB  | No comments

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew thinks Arsene Wenger deserves to win the Champions League this season.

“I’m very disappointed that I don’t have more British players in my squad. I do want more but I can’t argue with my French contingent because they’ve been absolutely brilliant,” Pardew told reporters.

“Football is a world market and maybe Arsene Wenger saw that before other managers or chairmen. In that respect, we owe him a debt.

“I think clubs can learn from Arsenal. What a job Arsene has done. No-one can ever take away from him what he has achieved, especially that ‘Invincibles’ season.

“I really hope he wins the Champions League this season. I think he deserves it for the career he’s had.”

Pardew : United must not sack Moyes

Posted by TB  | No comments

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is convinced that Manchester United should stick with David Moyes despite the Red Devils' struggles this season.

The Magpies won 1-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday, compounding Everton's midweek victory, to leave the Red Devils languishing ninth in the Premier League.

His opposite number is battling to turn things around after taking over from legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer and Pardew feels that the Scot has "already proven he's going to be great" for United.

"It's difficult for David and the club at the minute - they've had some tricky results," the Newcastle boss remarked to BBC Sport.

"He's a great manager. It's very important now that the fans of Manchester United and the board stick with him because he's already proven he's going to be great for this club but it is some sticky days; we all have them.

"David might need a year like that when it's touch-and-go but he'll get it right because he is a strong man," Pardew added. "I have a great respect for him.

"He had a bad break [on Saturday] with Wayne Rooney being unavailable because he'd been in top form."

Santon : Rooney absence will help Newcastle

Posted by TB  | No comments

Davide Santon believes that Newcastle United could thrive against a Manchester United side who are without Wayne Rooney.

The Magpies enjoyed a stellar November, which saw them record four wins out of four - including victories over Chelsea and Tottenham - but they were brought crashing down to earth by a 3-0 defeat at Swansea on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old thinks that the absence of Rooney could be a god send for Alan Pardew's men and suggested that avoiding relegation remains their main concern, rather than finishing above the Red Devils.

"The one thing we have to do is we have to try to get 40 points as soon as possible as we have to make sure we are safe," he told to the reporters.

"I think we are in good shape at the moment, we have 23 points, but we have to keep going. Even if against Manchester United we get a bad result then we don't have to put ourselves down.

"Man Utd are still a big, big team. At the moment we're on top of them but just by one point - it will be a massive game because if we win the game we go four points above them.

"Fortunately [Wayne] Rooney's suspended, so that's good for us. [Robin] Van Persie at the moment is not having the greatest season like last season, but I think that he's always a dangerous striker - when he has the chance he will score."
