Capello: Conte is the best in Italy

Posted by TB  | No comments

Fabio Capello has stated that Juventus’ Antonio Conte is the best manager in Italy and believes that the current Bianconeri side is the strongest in years.

Capello won two Serie A titles in his two years at the club between 2004 and 2006, before they were stripped following the Italian match fixing scandal.

Conte has matched this achievement in his first two years after winning back-to-back titles and with Juventus sitting at the top of the table entering 2014, Capello admitted Conte’s side are better.

“Even if the numbers don’t say this, the current Juventus are stronger than mine were,” said Capello in a Sky interview.

“He took a team that was experiencing a great moment, and gave them a winning mentality. At the moment he is absolutely the best Italian coach, I've seen what they are winning and why they succeeded in getting these achievements in a short time.”

The Bianconeri’s next league game gives them an opportunity to widen the gap at the top as they take on second -placed Roma on January 6 at the Juventus Stadium.

“It's a very important match. If Rome loses they would go eight points behind and it would be a difficult to retrieve,” Capello said about the fixture.

“The Giallorossi is an excellent team, has a fine coach who has very clear ideas and a very strong defence. They are aren’t in cups and must hope Juve drop when they are engaged in Europe.”

Having managed both clubs, Capello also insisted he had no allegiance to either team.

“Who is more in my heart? Both, I had good times at both Turin and Rome,” the 67 year-old recalled.

“With the Giallorossi I won a league title that was missing for many years. At Juve I have won two league titles, then had them deleted but I don't believe that, for me they are always valid.”

Capello: Ronaldo deserves Ballon d'Or

Posted by TB  | No comments

Fabio Capello believes that Cristiano Ronaldo deserves to win this year's Ballon d'Or for playing a key role in Portugal's qualification for the World Cup.

The 28-year-old attacker has been in sensational goalscoring form all year and currently has 25 goals in 18 appearances for Real Madrid so far this season.

However, Capello believes it was his remarkable four-goal haul in Portugal's play-off triumph over Sweden, which included a hat-trick in the second leg in Solna, which should see Ronaldo break a run of two successive runners-up finishes to Lionel Messi in the battle for the Ballon d'Or.

"This year Cristiano definitely deserves it," the Russia boss told Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

"In recent years, he always deservedly came second to Messi but this season he has done really decisive things.

"Against Sweden in the play-offs, he carried his Portugal to qualification for the World Cup. It was impressive."

Although Messi is again in contention, Ronaldo's main rival for the annual Fifa award is believed to be Franck Ribery, who won a treble with Bayern Munich last season.

Capello : Real Madrid made a mistake by selling Ozil

Posted by TB  | No comments

Former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello feels that the Santiago Bernabeu side were wrong to sell Mesut Ozil to Arsenal during the summer transfer window.

Madrid opted to cash in on the Germany international on deadline day after bringing in Gareth Bale and Isco, but Capello believes they would have been better off had they held on to the 25-year-old.

"I don’t know what happened with Ozil. I think that he is an extraordinary player and he was very important for Real Madrid," Capello told Onda Cero.

"He’s a world-class player. They made a mistake selling him."
